Right Thoughts, Right Direction

The unique challenges faced by amputees during daily activities can be a source of discouragement and fear. Our guest speakers, Crystal Quarry, Psy.D, and Rick Myers, C.P., will discuss the physiological and psychological benefits of having a positive mindset - especially during those challenging times. They will present clinical information and personal and professional experiences demonstrating the benefits to both body and mind of a persistent, positive outlook.

Crystal Quarry, Psy.D.

Crystal is a psychological assistant and postdoctoral fellow at Shanti, Orange County. She received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University and has experience working in various mental health settings such as inpatient/outpatient care, school-based counseling with children, adolescents, and adults; addiction, and childhood and adult trauma. Crystal is also the mother of a teenage above the knee amputee. As part of her recent graduate work, she completed one of the largest studies ever conducted on amputee children and their emotional well being. When she is not working, Crystal enjoys traveling, camping, the arts, and spending time outdoors with her family.

Rick Meyers C.P.,

Rick Myers founded Southern California Prosthetics following two decades of accomplishment in the field of medical device management. As founder and former president of Freedom Innovations, Myers developed the company into a leading US high-technology provider of carbon-fiber prosthetic feet and micro-processor controlled knees. Previously, he was vice president of Global Operations for Ossur, an international leader in orthotics and prosthetics. Myers’ expertise spans operations, sales, marketing, product development, business development and acquisitions. In 2008, he earned his certificate in prosthetics from Cal State Dominguez Hills to focus on his passion for patient care. He has served on the boards of directors of the Amputee Coalition of American since 2004 and Providence Christian College, and, in 2006, founded Heritage Christian School. Rick has been married to his college sweetheart, Megan, for 36 years, and has four grown children. In his spare time he enjoys church, golf, and Maui.
